Construction on our 2008 Thrivent Builds Weinberg family home began May 31, was completed in August and dedicated in September. It was a great year and the Weinbergs are a great family. Happy happy was the day that 8-year old Dillon got to paint (which wasn't nearly as exciting as he thought it was going to be) but he helped out just like Andy promised! Thanks to the local congregations who turned out to help, who prayed for the family and the project overall, who fundraised or set aside budgeted money or donated special offerings, and a special thanks for those who provided nourishing meals for the volunteers. Over $14,000 was raised by local congregations and more than 50% of all volunteers on the project were Lutherans and more than 25% of all volunteers were Thrivent Members!

You did more than build two houses.
You brought both the Taylor and the Sartor family home!

Through Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, 313 families realized the dream of homeownership in just one year.

We’re celebrating a great accomplishment! Thanks to members of fifteen churches who joined with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, including members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the Washtenaw Thrivent Chapter and other local volunteers, the Taylor and Sartor families now have a great start towards economic independence.

This year, 313 homes were built across the United States with families in need of simple, decent, affordable housing. That’s about one home built every 28 hours through Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity. It’s an amazing and inspiring accomplishment—and you are to thank for making it happen here in Washtenaw County.

You can help 355 families in 2007

It’s estimated that 5 million people in the United States live in substandard conditions. As you know, some of these people include families in our community. Many are struggling to provide even the most basic needs, like food, electricity and a safe place to live. That can change—with your help.

Join us as we build 355 homes in 2007 – including one in our community.

To get involved in the 2007 Cornerstone House, contact Lonni Vitale by phone at (734) 677-1558 ext. 105 or by e-mail at comrel@h4h.org.

From the first nail to the last, building a home through Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is a profound experience. It’s not just concrete and wood, it’s tears and smiles, born of hard work and faith. And it’s the knowledge that you’ve helped change lives.

You can lead by example

Changing lives by working side-by-side with families to build their homes comes from the heart. Leading a group of your fellow congregation members comes from your heart, too, but with a sense of wanting to do more–giving more of your time and effort to help a family in need. Become a Congregational Champion. Congregational champions work with other caring people as an important part of the Cornerstone team. With the help of your team, you’ll teach people in your congregation about Habitat for Humanty Huron Valley & Thrivent Builds, recruit volunteers and coordinate fund-raising within your congregation.
